Avto Kharchilava

Mr. Avto Kharchilava is a Professor in the Department of Physics, University at Buffalo. He graduated from the Moscow State University in 1978 and joined Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences, Georgia. He obtained PhD degree from Tbilisi State University in 1990. His expertise is in Particle Physics, also known as High Energy Physics. His research interests are related to various particle detectors R&D, simulation/visualization of physics processes, experimental setup optimization, data taking and analysis, precision measurements of the Standard Model processes and searches for New Physics Phenomena at hadron colliders. Since early 90’s, Dr. Kharchilava has held research scholar positions in a number of European national labs. In 2000, he joined the University of Notre Dame Particle Physics group and moved to the US. In 2005, Dr. Kharchilava became faculty member in the Department of Physics, University at Buffalo. He is currently a member of the D0 (Fermilab, US) and CMS (CERN, Switzerland) international collaborations.

He received Georgian State Prize in Science in 1983.
